Three stacked pieces give you two compartments: coarse salt fills the ceramic base, and peppercorns or other whole spices sit in the concave lid above it. The lid pivots, so one hand swings it open while the other holds the pan. The cellar is 4 inches across and 4.25 inches tall, about the size of a coffee mug, which leaves room on a crowded counter. Use the base for pinching and the top for refilling the pepper mill. It comes in white, red and black ceramic under natural cork. Wipe the pieces with a damp cloth.
